Abstract
This study explores an alternative method for designing a PID controller aimed at optimizing the operation of buck converter applications. The study proposes a simple and direct formula based on comparing the coefficients of the transfer function parameters of the buck converter with those of the controller. The proposed controller was implemented and evaluated using the MATLAB/Simulink environment, and its performance was compared against that of an automatically tuned controller. Simulation results indicate that the tuned controller exhibits a steady state error of 0.17%. In contrast, the proposed controller offers superior tracking capability, zero steady state error, robust disturbance rejection, and operates approximately seven times faster than the tuned controller. The proposed controller offers a 100% accuracy and therefore can guarantee stable and efficient performance of buck converter operations. This research therefore underscores the potential of the new controller design to significantly enhance the reliability and efficiency of buck converter systems.
